Laura Vallverdu named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Junior women’s tennis player, Laura Vallverdu, who finished in second place in the 2009 NCAA women’s singles competition, has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, May 25. The Valencia, Venezuela native was defeated by Duke’s Mallory Cecil 7-5, 6-4 after winning five matches to reach the final. In doing so, she became the second player in school history to reach the final joining 2007 singles champion Audra Cohen. On the year, Vallverdu recorded a 33-8 record. She becomes the first player in UM history to have won 30 or more matches in each of her first three years of collegiate competition. |
