Ahoure Races to Top Qualifying Time at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams are using their last attempts to reach or improve upon regional qualifying marks at the George C. Griffin Track on the campus of Georgia Tech. Over 65 institutions are in attendance for the last chance meet.

For the 16th-ranked women, senior Murielle Ahoure sprinted to the best time in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter dash, beating all 44 competitors with a time off 11.37 seconds. Joining Ahoure in tomorrow’s finals will be junior Kristy Whyte, whose time of 11.67 was the seventh of the evening. It was the third regional qualifying mark of the outdoor season for both women.

The 100-meter final is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday and both women will also run with Tara Thomas and Nene Kamate in the 4×100 relay at 1 p.m. Whyte will also look to improve her No. 14 ranked 200-meter time Saturday at 5 p.m.

Sophomores Ti’erra Brown, Takecia Jameson and Tameka Jameson will run in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday at 4:10 p.m. All three women have already qualified for regionals and aim to improve upon their rankings.

On the men’s side, junior Cory Nelms qualified for the 110-meter hurdles finals with his eighth-place time of 14.29 seconds. Freshman Devon Hill finished with a time of 14.61 seconds. Both men will be participating in the 400-meter hurdles, Saturday at 4:10 p.m. The 110-meter hurdles final is set to begin at 2:50 p.m.

Sophomore Patrick Blackie will also be in action as he will run in the 400-meter dash at 3 p.m.
