Miami to Compete in Georgia Tech Invitational

CORAL GABLES – The No. 16 University of Miami women’s track and field team will be joined by the men’s team at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. The meet will begin Friday, May 15 and will conclude on Saturday at George C. Griffin Track.
Freshman Devon Hill and junior Cory Nelms will be the first Hurricanes in action on Friday, as both will race in the 110-meter hurdles at 6 p.m. Both men will also run in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday at 4:10 p.m. Nelms currently holds regional qualifying times in both events and Hill will be looking to join him at the NCAA Regional Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Murielle Ahoure will run in the first of three events on the weekend when she participates in the 100-meter dash trials Friday evening with the top performers moving onto the finals Saturday at 4 p.m. Ahoure, who holds the 14th-best collegiate100 time in the nation at 11.34 seconds, will also be a member of both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Junior Kristy Whyte will also be running the 100-meters, where she holds a No. 38 ranking. She will join Ahoure, Nene Kamate and Tara Thomas in the 4×100 and will also look to improve her No. 14 ranked 200-meter time Saturday at 5 p.m.
The final events Friday evening will be the men’s and women’s long jump. Junior Deandra Doyley and Freshman Brittni Finch both were all-ACC performers in March and both have regional qualifying marks. Junior Christina Madry will also participate in the event scheduled for 7 p.m. The 34th-ranked junior, Mikese Morse, will jump for the men, while Doyley will also take part in the triple jump Saturday at 2 p.m.
Sophomores Ti’erra Brown, Takecia Jameson and Tameka Jameson will run in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday at 4:10 p.m. All three women have already qualified for regionals and aim to improve upon their rankings.
