GREENSBORO, N.C. – –

Sophomore carded a 79 to lead the University of Miami on day one at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Friday at the Sedgefield Country Club. Sedgefield, the site where the Atlantic Coast Conference was founded in May of 1953, is hosting its first women’s championship.

Wake Forest leads after the first 18 holes posting a 286. The Demon Deacons sit two-over for the championship, which is nine strokes better than second place Virginia (295). North Carolina (300), NC State (302) and Duke (309) finish out the top five. Miami is ninth competing with just four players after sophomore did not make the trip due to illness.

Wake Forest’s sophomore Natalie Sheary leads the field after firing an opening round 5-under 66. Sheary’s round, which included six birdies and just one bogey, set a new women’s course record at Sedgefield. It was just one-shot off the ACC Tournament’s low individual round of 6-under 65 which was set by Kristin Tamulis of Florida State back in 2003.

Ronderos is tied for 23rd. After a tough start on the front nine, Ronderos shot 37 on the back nine. She shot even on eight of the nine last holes and is eight-over for the tournament. Freshman started off well shooting 38 on the front nine. She shot 42 on the back nine to finish nine-over par 80 in the first round which has her tied for 26th place.

Freshman carded an 89 and senior shot 91 to round out the scoring for the Hurricanes.

The 54-hole tournament continues with the second round on Saturday at the par-71, 6,355-yard course. The Hurricanes are paired with Florida State and Boston College during Saturday’s second round which will tee off at 8:30 a.m.

Live scoring of the tournament will be on Golfstat.com.
