Hurricanes Place Fourth at Canes & Cardinal Classic

Canes & Cardinal Classic Results 

Miami Lakes, Fla. – University of Miami freshman Jennifer Hirano carded a career-best one-under par 71 in the final round on her way to a sixth place finish and the Hurricanes placed three golfers in the top 15 to take fourth in the Canes & Cardinal Classic hosted by the University of Miami and University of Louisville on Tuesday at Don Shula’s Golf Resort.

 

Miami finished with a three-round total of 914, putting UM just four strokes out of a tie for second place. No. 16 San Jose State won the team title after shooting 296 on the final day as the Trojans finished 23-over par 887. Washington State (910) and Princeton (910) tied for second followed by Miami and Penn State (918) rounding out the top five. San Jose State’s Erica Moston took the individual title shooting two-under 70 in her final round and finished two-under par 214 in the tournament. Princeton’s Susannah Aboff was second with a 219.

 

The Hurricanes had their best round of the tournament Tuesday shooting 304. Jennifer Hirano paced Miami shooting a 35 on the front nine. She birdied four times shooting under par on holes four, seven, nine and 12 while shooting even on 11 of the 18 holes. She shot a 36 on the back nine. She shot eight-over par 224 for the tournament tying for sixth place.

 

Sophomore Maria Ronderos continued her strong play recording her second straight top 10 finish and her third top 10 finish of the season. Ronderos carded a four-over par 76 in her final round and was 11-over 227 for the tournament. She tied for 10th place.

 

Sophomore Christina Hirano was the third Hurricane to finish in the top 15 as she tied for 13th place after posting a six-over par 78 in her last round. She ended up 12-over 228 for the tournament while earning her third top 15 finish of the season.

 

Freshman Begona Sarabia shot seven-over 79 in the final round and tied for 31st while senior Anabelle Paulino tied for 52nd after shooting 81 in her final round.

 

 

Miami will next take part in the ACC Championship in Greensboro, N.C. from April 17-19.
