CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami wrapped-up the second day of competition at the season-opening Hurricane Invitational at Cobb Stadium. Rachel Dupree and Diego Rosado both had record-setting days for the host `Canes.
The women’s heptathlon and the men’s decathlon wrapped up after opening on Thursday. With 5,801 points, sophomore Diego Rosado reached a new career-high in the decathlon. In the high jump portion of the event, the Albuquerque, N.M. native reached a mark of 2.00m (6-06.75), moving into a fifth-place tie with Bill Deering on the school’s all-time list.
Freshman Rachel Dupree also cracked Miami’s all-time list with 4,205 points in the heptathlon. Her point total was the most scored by a Hurricane in the event since the 2005 season.
Sophomore Megan Novinger reached her new collegiate-best in the high jump, registering a mark of 1.70m (5-07.00).
In the 5,000-meter run, the Hurricanes had many runners reach new personal-best times, including sophomore Emma Steppe finished second overall at 18:29.20. On the men’s side, sophomore Charles Michel was the team’s top-finisher at 15:53.12.
There will be 20-plus schools and scores of unattached participants competing in the third and final day of the meet, including Atlantic Coast Conference foes, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. The field events are set to begin at 11 a.m. with men’s hammer throw. The running events are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. with the 4×100 relays.
