Murielle Ahoure Named ACC Performer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami `s Murielle Ahoure has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for her performance at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas, Feb. 13-14.
Ahoure, a senior, broke Lauryn Williams’ 60-meter dash record earlier in the season with blistering time of 7.17. An effort that still holds as the World’s fastest time. This past weekend in College Station, the Bristow, Va. native ran two more automatic qualifying times in the event, with a 7.24 prelim time and a winning 7.26 in the finals.
Also, in the 200-meter dash, Ahoure ran the then fastest time in the world, winning the event in 23.14 seconds. The automatic time ranks second all-time at the University of Miami and is the top-collegiate time of 2009.
The talented sprinter has won all five of the individual events that she has participated in this season and will have two weeks to prepare for the ACC Championships at the Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech, Feb. 26-28.
The weekly conference award is the third of the season for Ahoure. She is the only Hurricane since Krista Simkins (Feb. 19, 2008) to earn the accolade.
