Hurricanes Head to Virginia Tech

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami track and field team, with a No. 24 ranking on the women’s side, is set for the Virginia Tech Elite Invitational at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House. The meet will be held on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6-7.

Both the field and running events will get underway at 5 p.m. on Friday. Events will start again at 11 a.m. on Saturday starting with the men’s high jump.

The Hurricanes will be joined in Blacksburg, Va. by Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State, Wake Forest, Maryland, Georgia, East Tennessee State and UNC-Charlotte.

Senior Murielle Ahoure is scheduled to run in the 60-meter dash where she has already run an automatic time. The Bristow, Va. native is also scheduled to compete in the 200-meter dash. Junior Ashley Dukes, who along with Tara Thomas reached provisional times at the Tom Jones Memorial in the 55-meter dash, will race this weekend in the 60-meters.

On the men’s side, Mikese Morse brings his conference-best mark of 7.56m in the long jump to the Rector Field House. The junior will also participate in the triple jump.

Travis Benjamin was a pleasant surprise, with his performance in Gainesville in the 55-meter dash, heads into the 60-meter dash with fellow football stars DeMarcus Van Dyke, Davon Johnson and Brandon Harris.

Sophomore All-American Ti’erra Brown, who already has two provisional times in the 55-meter hurdles, will try to accomplish the feat in the 60-meter version.
