Hurricanes Complete Day One of Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Miami track and field team opened its 2009 indoor season with a trio of performances at the University of Kentucky Invitational UK’s Nutter Field House.

In the first day of competition, junior Christina Madry participated in the triple jump for the women, while senior Elan Daviglus and freshman Jason Johnson took part in the high jump and triple jump respectively for the men.

Madry, made her return to the Hurricanes roster after missing all of last season. In the triple jump, the El Paso, Texas native reached a distance of 11.77m (38-07.50) for an eighth place finish out of 22 competitors.

Last season’s all-ACC performer in the indoor high-jump, Daviglus, leapt to a height of 1.89m (6-02.25) in his first action of the season.

Making his collegiate debut was Johnson, who reached a mark of 13.13m (43-01.00) in the men’s triple jump.

The meet will start-up again tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s high jump and will conclude later in the evening with the 4x400m relays.
