Cook, Marve Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami football players Glenn Cook and Robert Marve have earned Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors announced by the league office Monday. It is the second time this season the Hurricanes had a Rookie and a Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Marve earned Rookie of the Week honors in leading the Hurricanes to a convincing, 41-23 win over Texas A&M. He made his second career start and completed 16-of-22 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He threw his first career touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the first half – a 26 yarder to freshman receiver Thearon Collier and later had a 16-yarder to Kayne Farquharson in the third quarter. Marve completed 13 of his first 16 passes. For the game, he completed 72.7 percent of his passes.

Cook picked up a season-high nine tackles (three solo and six assisted) – one shy of his career-high – and returned a fumble for a touchdown. It was his second career fumble return for a TD. He knocked the ball loose, picked it up and ran it back two yards for a touchdown in the third quarter giving the Hurricanes a 41-10 lead. He also had a half tackle for loss. Cook leads the Hurricanes with 18 total tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Hurricane linebacker Spencer Adkins and freshman quarterback Jacory Harris earned Defensive Lineman of the Week and Rookie of the Week after UM’s 52-7 win against Charleston Southern in the season opener.

Marve and NC State freshman quarterback Russell Wilson headlined the Atlantic Coast Conference Football Players of the Week awards for the games on Sept. 20. Joining them this week are Cook, Georgia Tech offensive tackle Andrew Gardner, Wake Forest safety Kevin Patterson and placekicker Sam Swank.

Wilson earned Offensive Back of the Week. Georgia Tech’s Gardner earns his second Offensive Lineman of the Week. Patterson took Defensive Back of the Week honors and Swank netted his second Specialist of the Week honor.
