Freshman Kelci Bryant Wins 1-m Diving Event at OSU Invite

Columbus, Ohio – University of Miami freshman diver Kelci Bryant took first place in the 1-meter diving well on Saturday collecting a score of 320.45 to place as one of three UM divers in the top three of second day action at the OSU Invitational held at the McCorkle Aquatics Center in Columbus.

Bryant, trailing after the preliminary round, posted a season-best mark in the finals. This was also a team second-best mark of the year for UM as Jenna Dreyer holds the best score (327.35) when she set the mark at the UMBC and NC State tri-meet in Raleigh, N.C. Junior Brittany Viola came in third in the 1-meter event after leading through the preliminary round, turning in a score of 304.10 during her last few dives.

In the men’s diving portion in the 3-meter event, Reuben Ross scored a final mark of 409.60 turning in a third place score. Ross had a 400.50 score in the preliminaries. For the Regina, Saskatchewan native, this is the second-highest score in the 3-m well this season. His score of 433.00 in the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational two weeks ago was a season-best for the Hurricanes.

Over in the swimming lanes, Britta Boesing touched the wall in sixth place with a time of 1:03.92 in the 100-yard breaststroke, while teammates Dana Hatic (1:03.96) and Katie Eason (1:05.15) came in ninth and 10th, respectively. It was a season-best time on the year for the Orange and Green turned in by Boesing.

The Miami 200 Medley Relay team touched the wall at 1:45.26 to place eighth, turning in a season-high performance in the event. Boesing, Dana Hatic, Annika Saarnak and Lauren Jacoby were the team for UM.

The 800 Freestyle Relay team came in seventh with a time of 7:29.89 led by the crew of Boesing, Jacoby, Ryann Labreche and Saarnak.

In the 100 Butterfly, Annika Saarnak had a mark of 56.80 to come in 14th, while also finishing 16th with a time of 1:54.06 in the 200 Freestyle.

Action continues tomorrow back at the McCorkle Aquatics Center beginning at 11 a.m. The Hurricanes are currently in fifth place on the weekend.
