Hurricanes Take Third at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

The University of Miami women’s golf team finished third at the 2008 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at the Greenville Country Club Tuesday.

 

Georgia State and East Carolina finished ahead of the Hurricanes, who picked up their first top-three finish since the 2006-07 season. Miami had a three-day total of 913 in the 20-team field. UM’s second round score of 291 Monday matched one of the top 10 lowest team rounds in school history and was the first time since 2005 that UM shot 291 or lower.

 

Sophomore Christina Hirano paced Miami for the second straight day. She carded a team-best three-over par 74 in the final round to finish tied for 12th.  Sophomore Maria Ronderos finished tied for 10th after shooting eight-over par 79 in her final round. She was 12-over par for the tournament – one stroke ahead of Christina Hirano.

 

Freshman Jennifer Hirano carded an 80 in her final round on Tuesday to finish 16th. She was 14-over par 227 for the tournament.

 

Freshman Begona Sarabia finished out the tournament shooting an 81 in the final round while senior Anabelle Paulino posted an 83

 

The Hurricanes will play for the third straight weekend when they travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by the College of Charleston Oct. 27-28.
