June 20, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Miami was represented by freshmen Takecia Jameson and Miranda Wilson at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
Jameson is only a week removed from the NCAA National Championships that were held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. While there, she earned All-American honors for her performance in the 400-meter hurdles, placing third.
Friday in Columbus, Jameson ran the second fastest time in the preliminary round with a 1:00.63, winning her heat. The top nine competitors advance to Saturday’s final, scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m.
During the season, the Maryland native ran her best time at the NCAA East Regionals in Tallahassee, Fla. at 56.60 seconds.
If Jameson finishes in the top two of tomorrow’s final she would earn a spot on the US Junior National Team and would be eligible to compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland in July.
Wilson competed in the discus on Friday, an event where her season-best mark is 47.78m (156-09). The Vallejo, Calif. native hit a mark of 43.83m (143-09) in Columbus, good for a tenth place finish.
