Brown and Jameson Reach 400-Meter Hurdle Finals

DES MOINES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Iowa– The No. 14 ranked University of Miami women’s track and field team saw two freshmen advance to the 400-meter hurdles final, as Takecia Jameson and Ti’erra Brown qualified in today’s semi-final round at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National at DrakeUniversity’s Drake Stadium.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
There were two semi-final heats, with the top three finishers plus the next two best times moving on to tomorrow’s final at 8:55 p.m. Jameson automatically moved to the next round with a second place finish in her heat with a time of 57.37, her second-best time of the year. Brown finished fifth in her heat at 57.55, but grabbed the second of the two remaining top times.
The 4×400 relay team of Kristy Whyte, Tameka Jameson, Krista Simkins, and Takecia Jameson needed to win one of the four semi-final heats or grab one of the next four best times to advance to Saturday’s finals. However the team fell just short as they finished second to Texas A&M in their heat and 12th overall with a time of 3:35.25, the third-best time of the season for any Miami 4×400 team.
The Southeast Region Field Performer of the Year Khadija Talley failed to record a mark in the shot put after three fouls, but she will be in action tomorrow as she will compete in the discus finals at 5:30 p.m. Talley reached the final round after she placed eighth in the qualifying round with a mark of 51.39m (168-07), there will be 12 competitors in the finals.
