Hurricanes Open Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA – The University of Miami men’s and 12th-ranked women’s track and field teams opened the Georgia Tech Invitational at George C. Griffin Track, Friday night.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Freshman Tara Thomas won her preliminary heat with an even time of 12.00. She is looking for a regional qualifying time at tomorrow’s final heat, set to start at 3:40 p.m.
Deandra Doyley finished fifth out 25 competitors in the long jump with a mark of 5.90m.
Kaitlin Nazario’s throw of 41.10m in the javelin was good for a tenth place finish in her final tune-up before the regionals in two weeks in <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Tallahassee.
For the men, both Les Bradley II (14.30) and Cory Nelms (14.41) qualified for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles after their preliminary attempts. The finals heat is scheduled to start Saturday at 3:50 p.m.
In his final collegiate event, senior Casey McGinn reached 4.75m in the pole vault for a fourth place finish.
Tomorrow the action begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s high jump, where Viktoria Andonova will get things started for the Hurricanes.
