ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Miami relay team of Britta Boesing, Magdalena Waszkiewicz, Katie Eason and Kirsten Pomerleau established a new school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.11 Wednesday on the opening night of the 2008 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the GeorgiaTechAquaticCenter.

The combination of Boesing, Waszkiewicz, Eason and Pomerleau broke the previous UM mark of 1:43.61 set by one of the current record-holders, Waszkiewicz, along with Ashley Knapp, Andrea Hughes and Christine Zwiegers in 2006.
“I’m so proud of how the girls stepped up and performed tonight,” head coach Christie Shefchunas said. “To come out and set a school-record on the opening night here was just the start we were looking for.”
In the only other event Wednesday night, the 800-yard medley relay team of Annika Saarnak, Boesing, Ryann Labreche and Emerson Davis nearly matched the 200-yard medley team’s performance, finishing in a time of 7:25.74, the third fastest time in school history and the fastest time at UM since 1993.
“Both of our relay teams have really given us great confidence heading into our individual events tomorrow,” Shefchunas said.
The `Canes placed sixth in the 800 free relay behind first-place Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina, Maryland and host Georgia Tech. In the 200 medley relay, UM came in seventh behind first-place Virginia Tech, Virginia, FSU, UNC, Clemson and Duke.
After Wednesday night’s two relay events, Miami’s 50 points puts the Hurricanes in a tie with Duke with for fifth place overall. Virginia currently leads the pack with 74 points with FSU (66), UNC (62) and Virginia Tech (58) ranking second through fourth.
