CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In its final tune-up before the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, the University of Miami swim team travels to Florida Atlantic this weekend to take on the Owls at the FAU Pool in Boca Raton, Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.

Miami (8-2) and FAU will be meeting for the second time this season after the `Canes came away with a 165.5-132.5 victory earlier this season when the two teams meet in Coral Gables, Nov. 9. UM’s win over FAU in the fall was its first victory over the Owls in three seasons.

“This meet is going to be a good test for us,” head coach Christie Shefchunas said. “FAU-Miami has become a good rivalry and there is no doubt both teams will be ready to race Saturday. I look forward to watching our girls step up to the challenge.”

In the last meeting, Annika Saarnak, Britta Boesing and Kelly Peloquin all came away with two victories apiece while UM also won both relay events. Saarnak won the 200-yard freestyle event, coming in at 1:53.44 before she later won the 100-yard freestyle event in a time of 51.20. Boesing took home the 100-yard backstroke event (57.04) and the 200-yard IM (2:04.74) while Peloquin clinched wins in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:05.59 and 2:23.23 respectively.

Last weekend at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool, Miami defeated Florida International, 167-63, and Florida Gulf Coast, 169-70, in its final home meet of the season.

After Saturday’s meet, Miami will use the next two weeks to prepare for the ACC Championships in Atlanta, Feb. 20-23.
