Taylor Earns All-ACC Second Team Recognition

Feb. 26, 2007

Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami senior guard Renee Taylor (Harlem, N.Y.) has earned All-ACC Second Team honors in a vote by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).

It is the second postseason accolades earned by Taylor, who was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection as a junior in 2005-06. The only other Hurricane to garner all-conference honors in Miami’s three-year ACC membership was Tamara James, a first-team pick in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

The 5-2 Taylor has led the ACC in scoring throughout the season with 18.8 points per game and in free throw shooting, converting 84.3 percent of her free throw attempts. In addition, she has wrapped up the regular season ranked among the league’s top five in three-point field goals made (2.3 pg) and minutes played (34.7 pg), and among the ACC’s top 10 in steals (2.1 pg).

In Saturday’s regular-season finale versus N.C. State, Taylor became the 19th Hurricane to surpass the 1,000-point milestone, compiling 1,011 points in just two seasons with Miami.

The University of Miami women’s basketball team (11-18, 2-12 ACC) returns to the hardwood on Thursday, March 1, at the ACC Tournament held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. The 11th-seeded Hurricanes will take on sixth-seeded Georgia Tech (19-10, 9-5 ACC) in the opening round at 8 p.m.
