UM Swimming Signs Freestyler Alyssa Landino

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head swimming coach Christie Shefchunas announced the signing of Alyssa Landino (Flower Mound, Texas) to a National Letter of Intent to join the UM swimming program in the fall of 2008.
Landino, who led Marcus High School to an undefeated season and to a 2007 District 6-5A championship her junior year, specializes in short-to-middle distance freestyle events.
“We are so excited for Alyssa to become a Hurricane,” Shefchunas said. “This team has become such a close family and she will fit in perfectly.”
Her top prep times include a mark of 24.08 in the 50-yard freestyle, 52.14 in the 100-yard free, 1:50.26 in the 200-yard free and 4:55.65 in the 500-yard free.
“She is a wonderful woman with loads of talent,” Shefchunas added. “She will contribute immediately for us and help up move put the ACC ladder.”
During her sophomore year, Landino placed 18th among underclassmen nationally in the 200-yard freestyle event at the 2005-06 NISCA/Speedo Swimming All-America meet. As a freshman, Landino reached the finals of the Texas High School University Interscholastic League State Championships in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
