Boesing Leads UM At Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – Britta Boesing recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard IM final with a time of 2:04.58 to lead the University of Miami swimming and diving team on the opening day of the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday, Nov. 16 the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Boesing had reached the final round after recording the invitational’s top time in the 200-yard IM during the preliminary round when she came in at 2:04.37.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kirsten Pomerleau, Emerson Davis, Marina Dadic and Annika Saarnak placed fourth in a time of 1:35.93, finishing behind two teams from LSU and one from Florida State.

Ryann Labreche had UM’s top time in the 500-yard free finals, coming in eighth place at 5:00.79. Kirsten Pomerleau was the team’s top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle event, also placing eighth with a mark of 23.87 while Saarnak placed 11th in a time of 23.67. Diedre Novotny and Katie Eason each had top-15 finishes in the 200-yard IM with Novotny turning in a time of 2:08.10 to place 12th and Eason finishing 15th in 2:09.72.

In the preliminary 200-yard IM round, Boesing edged out LSU’s Kannon Betzen, who finished second in a time of 2:05.17. Five other Hurricanes qualified for the finals in the 200-yard IM. During the prelims, Katie Eason came in 12th (2:09.37), Novotny placed 13th (2:09.54), Kelly Peloquin 18th (2:10.66), Tiffany Petzold 45th (2:16.40) and Victoria Zubowicz came in 46th (2:16.73).

In the 500-yard freestyle prelims, Labreche finished fourth with a mark of 4:57.79 to qualify for the finals while Petzold, Capria DeVenuto and Meredith Hatic finished 30th, 33rd and 49th respectively.

Seven Hurricanes raced in the 50-yard free event with Pomerleau leading UM with a seven-place finish in a time of 23.87. Including Pomerleau, five Hurricanes in total qualified for the finals. Saarnak finished 10th (23.97), Davis came in 20th (24.39) while Dadic and Peloquin tied for 24th (24.50).

Events will resume Saturday morning with the preliminary round beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
