Soccer Takes on No. 12 Seminoles in Sunday's Sunshine State Showdown

Pitch Perfect… The University of Miami women’s soccer team (9-3-3, 4-1-1 ACC) is off to a program-best start in ACC play, and heads north to Tallahassee to face No. 12 Florida State (9-3-2, 4-1-1 ACC) on Sunday at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Hurricanes, who are receiving votes in both the NCSAA/adidas and Soccer Buzz polls, ride a three-game winning streak into the contest, while the Seminoles have also won three straight and are unbeaten in their last five contests. The teams enter Sunday’s Sunshine State showdown tied for third in the ACC, trailing league-leading North Carolina (12-3-0, 6-1-0), who the Hurricanes knocked off on Sept. 30, and Virginia (10-1-4, 4-0-3).
The Series… FSU is one of just two teams that Miami has faced in all 10 seasons the program has been in existence. The Hurricanes come off Wednesday’s 3-1 win over their other familiar foe — cross-town rival Florida International. The Seminoles lead the all-time series over the `Canes, 7-2-0, and have won seven straight over Miami, including a 2-0 decision over the Hurricanes in Tallahassee last season.
Giving Notice… Two Hurricanes in just three weeks have earned NSCAA National Player of the Week honors, as senior goalkeeper Lauren McAdam (Simsbury, Conn.) is the reigning title-holder and freshman Brittney Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J.) earned the accolade for the week of Oct. 1. Miami is the only school in the nation to have produced multiple NSCAA National Players of the Week this season and is the only ACC program to have had a player tabbed for this national recognition.
Both McAdam and Steinbruch have also been selected ACC Player of the Week and named to both the Soccer America Team of the Week and Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week, coinciding with their NSCAA National Player of the Week selections.
McAdam earned the honors after leading the Hurricanes to a 2-0-0 record in ACC play last week. She made six stops on 13 shots and did not give up a goal as Miami handed nationally-ranked Boston College its first loss of the season in a 1-0 win last Thursday. She registered her second-straight shutout and fourth of the season as the Hurricanes defeated Maryland 1-0 on Sunday, finishing with five saves on eight shots. For the week, McAdam totaled 11 saves on 21 shots with no goals allowed and set the Miami record for career shutouts with 14. In addition, she extended her UM record in career saves to 271 last week, and has 274 entering this afternoon’s contest. In ACC games, she posts a league-best .921 save percentage with an ACC-high 5.83 saves per game.
