McAdam Earns a Pair of National Team of the Week Honors
Oct. 17, 2007
Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami senior goalkeeper Lauren McAdam (Simsbury, Conn.) has been named to both the Soccer America Team of the Week and the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week after leading the Hurricanes to a pair of shutout victories.
The reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week registered back-to-back shutouts in ACC play last week en route to setting the school record in career shutouts with 14.
All three honors are a first for McAdam, while she is the second Hurricane to earn the recognition this season after freshman Brittney Steinbruch (Wyckoff, N.J.) was selected earlier this month.
The senior helped the Hurricanes hand then-No. 4 Boston College its first loss of the season with a 1-0 win on Thursday, and then finished the week with another 1-0 shutout at home over Maryland on Sunday as the Hurricanes improved to 8-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference to move into a tie for second place in the ACC with Florida State.
After knocking off a pair of top-10 teams – including 2006 National Champions North Carolina – and continuing their solid play, the Hurricanes have started to get some attention in the polls. Miami has received votes in both the NSCAA/adidas National Rankings – which would place them No. 28 in the nation with 17 votes – and in the Soccer Buzz National Top 30.
McAdam and the Hurricanes will play a pair of matches on the road this week, closing out their non-conference slate on Wed., Oct. 17, at cross-town rival Florida International at 7 p.m., before heading up to Tallahassee for a Sunday showdown with No. 12 Florida State. Sunday’s game will be televised live on Sun Sports at 1 p.m.
