Former Hurricane Gillian Russell Named to NCAA Silver Anniversary Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – As part of the 25th anniversary of NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, former University of Miami standout Gillian Russell has been named to the recently announced NCAA Silver Anniversary Team as selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Russell, a five-time NCAA Champion and nine-time All-American for the Hurricanes from 1991-95, received recognition by the USTFCCA in the 55-meter hurdles with a resume that includes NCAA national indoor titles in 1991 and 1995.
She would also claim NCAA outdoor title in the 100-meter hurdles in 1993, 1994 and 1995 before ending her UM career as the school record holder in six events.
A native of Jamaica, Russell was a two-time Olympian competing at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
