Hurricane Rowing Completes Dual Action against Alabama

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The University of Miami rowing team competed in a dual meet against the University of Alabama today, posting two first-place finishes at the Black Warrior River.
The Varsity Eight crew with rowers, Meghan Leydecker (Coxswain), Laura Cordner, Sarah Conlon, Laura Coltman, Kelly Amsler, Caitlin Augustin, Natasha Lejer, Karen Wiley, and Emy Huntsman, started the day with a head-to-head race and captured a first-place win with a time of 6:39.5 over Alabama’s Varsity Eight team who crossed the line at 6:56.1.
Miami `s JV Eight boat consisting of Jordan Louie (Coxswain),Bethany Krawec, Marleena Eyre, Molly Wilson, Marenda Chamberlin, Olivia Arkell, Karalyn Van Aken, Valerie Webb, and Hannah McKay raced against the Crimson Tide’s JV Eight, Novice Eight A and B, and captured the first-place win with an impressive 6:46.8 ahead of the remaining boats. Alabama’s JV Eight squad finished second with a time of 7:01.5, while the Novice Eight A and B crews finished with a time of 7:03.9 and 7:16.4 respectively.
In the final race of the day, the Hurricanes’ Varsity Four crew with Jessica Cruz (Coxswain), Stacey Kerr, Sarah Stocks, Julianne Parker, and Charlotte Hillery competed against Alabama’s Varsity Eight squad that split into two teams, with Alabama A and Alabama B. Miami posted a second-place finish with a time of 7:30.9 behind the A team who finished with a time of 7:16.9, and ahead the B team who crossed the line at 7:22.5.
Miami will get back in the water Saturday, May 12 when they compete in the Central/South Regional Championships in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
