Hurricane Rowing Prepares for the ACC Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. -The University of Miami rowing team is set to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship with all four crews, including the Varsity Four, Varsity 8, Junior Varsity and Novice 8 hitting the waters of Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. Saturday, April 21, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Varsity four, Varsity 8, and JV 8 boats all captured the fourth seeds for the ACC Championships this weekend, while Miami’s Novice 8 captured the sixth seed.
The Hurricanes hope to repeat another solid outcome similar to last year’s third place finish with 34 points. Miami finished behind the 2006 champion, Virginia and runner-up Duke.
The Varsity four teams will kick off the tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Action will continue at 9:20 a.m. with the Novice 8 boats, followed by the JV8 at 9:40 a.m. The varsity eight race will begin at 10 a.m., with an awards ceremony following the completion of the day’s events.
Over the last seven seasons, the Cavaliers of Virginia, ranked No. 5, have won each Atlantic Coast Conference championship since the league began sponsoring the sport in 2000. They have only loss two races in the seven-year history of the championships.
