Miami's JV 8 Wins the Women's JV Petite Race at the San Diego Crew Classic

San Diego, Calif. – The University of Miami’s JV 8 team cruised their way toward the finish line to capture the first place win in the women’s JV petite race on the final day of competition at the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic on the waters of Mission Bay.

The morning began with a case of fog causing a delay in the races. Once on the water, the push back of time could not put a stop to the Hurricanes’ JV 8 squad from crossing the finish line at 7:14.60 to capture first the first place victory. Miami finished ahead of San Diego State University (7:17.11), Kansas State (7:30.63), Loyola (7:38.87), and the University of San Diego (7:48.47). The JV8 team consisted of Jordan Louie (Coxswain), Marleena Eyre, Molly Wilson, Marenda Chamberlin, Bethany Krawec, Karalyn Van Aken, Olivia Arkell, Hannah McKay, and Valerie Webb.

The 3rd varsity 8 squad hit the waters first with rowers Jessica Cruz (Coxswain), Stacey Kerr, Sarah Stocks, Julianne Parker, Rachael Sporko, Courtney Guy, Molly Thornton, Sarah Greyer, and Charlotte Hillery, to finish third with a time of 7:49.90 in the Women’s Open Petite.

The Hurricanes’ Varsity 8 squad with rowers Meghan Leydecker (Coxswain) Laura Cordner, Sarah Conlon, Laura Coltman, Kelly Amsler, Caitlin Augustin, Emy Huntsman, Karen Wiley, and Natasha Lejer finished the Jessop-Whittier Cup Petite race with a time of 7:14.27.

Up next for the Hurricanes will be the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, taking place all day April 22nd in Clemson, S.C.
