Hurricanes Earn All-American Honors in the Final Day of the NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. – Senior Heather Bounds and freshman Brittany Viola earned ALL-American Honors after finishing fifth and six respectively in the women’s 10-meter platform finals Saturday evening at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Minnesota Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Bounds captured in her first ALL-American honor of the weekend after earning honorable mention in Thursday’s one-meter finals and Friday’s three-meter preliminaries. The Austin, Texas native posted a score of 313.25 to finish fifth in the A finals of the 10-meter. Earlier in the preliminaries, Bounds finished fourth with a score of 309.50.

Viola finished the weekend with her first All-American honor as a Hurricane after capturing a sixth place finish with a score of 285.50. The Orlando, Florida native placed sixth in the preliminaries with a score of 294.55.

Miami’s senior Derek Starks and freshman Ruben Ross will compete in the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships that begins Thursday, March 15 and runs through Saturday, March 17.
