Swimming and Diving Complete Final Regular Season Meet

Boca Raton, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming and women’s and men’s diving wrapped-up their final regular season dual meet against Florida Atlantic University and the University of Tampa Saturday afternoon at the FAU Pool. Against Florida Atlantic, Miami fell to the Owls 142.50-157.50, while defeating Tampa 239-59.
The first three meets of the day saw second place finishes by the Hurricanes. As a team, Miami clocked in at 1:48.82 in the 200 yard medley relay. Senior Tara Erwin tied for second place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:16.75, while freshman Britta Boesing clocked in at 1:53.78 in the 200 yard freestyle.
Boesing also led the Hurricanes as the only swimmer with two first place wins in two events, finishing the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.10, while clocking in at 2:07.68 in the 200 yard Individual Medley (IM).
Senior Ashley Knapp took first place in the 100 yard backstroke at 59.55, while clocking in at 2:09.59 in the 200 yard backstroke to take second place.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Magda Waszkiewicz touched the wall for second place. In the next event, Katie Eason and Kristen Lunak finished third and fourth respectively in the 200 yard butterfly clocking in at 2:10.26 and 2:11.95.
Kristen Pomerleau posted a first place win in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.56 and finished second place in the 100 yard freestyle at 53.15.
Freshman Kelly Peloquin took a second place finishes in the 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Peloquin posted a time of 2:24.50 before clocking in at 2:09.19.
In the diving events, Miami finished first and second place in all women’s and men’s diving competitions.
Jenna Dreyer took first place in the one meter diving with a score of 379.98, followed by freshman Brittany Viola with a score of 271.28.
In the three meter diving, the Hurricanes took first through third place led by Viola who finished 315.38, followed by senior Heather Bounds with a score of 305.18. Sophomore Tess Waresmith posted a score of 283.95 for third place.
The men’s diving saw Miami’s freshman Ruben Ross and senior Derek Starks dominate both the three meter and one meter diving. For first place in the three meter, Ross posted a 356.03 score followed by Starks with a score of 300.98. Ross scored a 353.25 finish in the one meter for first place, while Starks registered a 299.55 score for second place.
