Women's Swimming Fall to Rice

Houston, TX. – The University of Miami women’s swimming team could not pull off the win as they took on Rice University in the opening day of their 2007 Spring competition falling 103-159 in a dual meet.

The Hurricanes posted four first place wins led by freshman Kelly Peloquin with two apiece. The rookie clocked in at 1:07.81 in the 100 yard breaststroke, while finishing with a time of 2:25.61 in the 200 yard breaststroke.

In the 100 yard backstroke, senior Ashley Knapp registered a 1:00.09 finish for first place in the 100 yard backstroke. As a team, the Hurricanes started their day with a first place win in the 400 yard medley relay clocking in at 3:57.48. The race was led by freshman Britta Boesing followed by Magda Waszkiewicz, Nancy Gajos, and Kristen Pomerleau.

With second place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly, Katie Eason clocked in at 59:21 and 2:09.72 respectively.

Tara Erwin finished second place in the 1000 yard freestyle clocking in at 10:20.82, posting a third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.25.

Freshman Britta Boesing touched the wall for second place in the 200 yard Individual Medley (IM) with a time of 2:08.06, while clocking in third place in the 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard freestyle at 53.43 and 1:54.70 respectively.

The Hurricanes will face the University of Houston tomorrow at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. The dual meet will begin at 11:30 a.m. CT.
