Hurricanes Begin Fourth and Final Week of Spring Practice

April 11, 2006

Coral Gables – The Hurricanes returned to the practice field this afternoon, beginning their fourth and final week of spring practice. The annual spring game will be played Saturday morning at the Orange Bowl.

“We’re finishing up,” said head coach Larry Coker. “Today they were a little sluggish since they weren’t in pads and they had a couple of days off. But we got a lot of things done today. Tomorrow we will be in full pads, we’ll practice again Friday and then Saturday at the Orange Bowl for the spring game. We have had a great spring, so we want to finish up well and end on a positive note.”

Coker noted that the team’s run defense has really looked good this spring. “It’s really, really difficult to run the football on our team. That’s good. And Lance Leggett looked good (in last Saturday’s scrimmage), and Kyle Wright had three touchdown passes. We needed Lance to step up like that. And Greg Olsen as a total player and Richard Gordon as a receiver – those are positives.” Coker also cited the performance of Reggie Youngblood and Andrew Bain on the offensive line. “And I don’t mention Anthony Wollschlager anymore, because he practices well every day,” Coker said. “The linebacker play has really stood out, too.”

Wide receiver Ryan Moore returned to practice after missing more than a week with a leg injury. “He did a lot today,” Coker said. “He did more than I thought he would. It’s good to have him back in the rotation. The timing and execution of the receivers and the quarterbacks is so much better.”

The Hurricanes will scrimmage at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Greentree Practice Fields. Hurricane season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at www.hurricanesports.com or by calling 1-800-GO-CANES.
