Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team posted six first place finishes and nine second place finishes, going down 136-163 to the Owls of Florida Atlantic University over the weekend at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.

Miami finished first and third in the 200 yard medley relay. Swimmers Ashley Knapp, Magda Waszkiewicz, Katie Eason, and Kristen Pomerleau clocked in 1:45.18 for first, while Margaret Ravenna, Christina Rau, Nancy Gajos, and Jennifer Powell finished with a time of 1:45.73 for third.

With her second consecutive meet taking two first-place finishes, sophomore Kristen Pomerleau clocked in a time of 23.55 in the 50 yard freestyle and 51.22 in the 100 yard freestyle. This marks her third meet on the season posting two first-place finishes.

Katie Eason placed first ahead of three other FAU swimmers in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 57.22.

Kelly Peloquin posted three second place finishes beginning with the 50 yard freestyle at 24.37. In the 200 yard breaststroke, the freshman clocked in a time of 2:21.56, while finishing with a time of 2:06.52 in the 200 yard IM.

Out of seven divers, two Hurricanes competed in the three meter diving event coming out on top. Freshman Brittany Viola scored a 294.08, capturing first place. Heather Bounds finished in second place with a score of 289.13.

In the 100 yard breaststroke, sophomore Magda Waszkiewicz finished second place with a time of 1:06.74, followed by freshman Victoria Zubowicz at 1:07.59. Christina Rau and Amy Caron finished at 1:08.83 and 1:09.93 respectively

Freshman Katie Eason placed second in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:06.24. Capria DeVenuto finished with a time of 2:09.68, while Kristen Lunak followed with a time of 2:10.06.

The 50 yard freestyle event, Tina McIntyre clocked in a time of 24.87, and Jennifer Powell finished 25.17. In the 100 yard freestyle, Emerson Davis and Jennifer Powell finished back-to-back at 55.09 and 56.11 respectively, while Allison Bardowell finished with a time of 57.35.

In the 200 yard backstroke, Ashley Knapp took second place at 2:08.47, while Margaret Ravenna placed third at 2:08.98. Tina McIntyre finished at 2:13.21.

Magda Waszkiewicz clocked in a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:25.93. Christina Rau and Amy Caron placed back-to-back finishes at 2:29.45 and 2:29.73 respectively.

Emerson Davis clocked in a time of 5:11.65 in the 500 yard freestyle. Meredith Hatic finished with a time of 5:24.59, while Sarah Lozier finished at 5:29.66.

In the 100 yard butterfly, Nancy Gajos finished with a time of 58.98, followed by Victoria Zubowicz at 59.16. Capria, DeVenuto finished with a time of 1:00.54.

Katie Eason, Victoria Zubowicz, and Kristin Lunak all swam in the 200 yard IM clocking in at 2:07.51, 2:11.13, and 2:13.60.

The last event saw the Hurricanes finishing second and fourth in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Kristen Pomerleau, Jennifer Powell, Tina McIntyre, and Kelly Peloquin finished with a time of 1:38.43. Emerson Davis, Ashley Knapp, Christina Rau, and Allison Bardowell clocked in a time of 1:42.32.

The Hurricanes will head to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete in the Nike Cup Invitational, where they will compete head-to-head against other ACC opponents. The three-day event will begin Thursday, November 16-18.
