Nov. 5, 2006
TALLHASSEE, Fla. – Miami sophomore Daniel Vallverdu claimed the 2006 Seminole Invitational singles championship Sunday when Kentucky’s 59th-ranked Bruno Agostinelli defaulted in the championship match.
Early in the day Vallverdu, ranked 70th nationally, upended Florida State’s 120th-ranked Jean Yves Aubone 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals to earn a berth into the championship match with Agostinelli.
The singles championship marked the second-consecutive tournament title for the Valencia, Venezuela native. Last weekend Vallverdu won the 2006 Crimson Tide Championships held at the University of Alabama.
