Hurricanes Go Down to Florida State

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team competed in their first home meet for the weekend against in-state rival Florida State Friday afternoon at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.

The Hurricanes fell to the Seminoles 98-199, as Miami took first place in three events.

Senior Heather Bounds took first place in the three-meter diving board, finishing with a score of 299.85, while junior Jenna Dreyer won the one-meter diving board with a score of 277.87.

Katie Eason took first place in the 200 yards individual medley clocking in at 2:07.50, followed by Kelly Peloquin in second place with a time of 2:07.55.

In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the Hurricanes clocked in at 3:36.48, taking first place with swimmers Kristen Pomerleau, Jennifer Powell, Emerson Davis, and Tina McIntyre. Swimmers Ashley Knapp, Capria DeVenuto, Christina Rau, and Allison Bardowell clocked in 3:49.64 to take second place.

Miami saw second place performances in the 100 yard backstroke from senior Ashley Knapp, who clocked in at 58.60, before Kristen Peloquin finished with a time of 23.63 in the 50 yard freestyle. Peloquin also chimed in a second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.45.

The Hurricanes competed against Western Kentucky the following afternoon at home.
