Women's Crew Opened their 2006-2007 Season at the 14th Annual Head of the Indian Creek Regatta

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s rowing team launched their fall racing season at the 14th annual 2006 Head of the Indian Creek Regatta on Sunday, October 15, at the Ronald Shane Watersports Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Racing began at 8:00 a.m.
“The Head of the Creek is a great opportunity for some intersquad competition”, stated head coach Debra Morgan. “It is especially a good warm up for the Head of the Charles.”
The Hurricanes Champ 8+ Final with Crew A consisting of senior Marleena Eyre, sophomore Kelly Amsler, sophomore Olivia Arkell, freshman Caitlin Burman, senior Marenda Chamberlin, senor Laura Coltman, senior Sarah Conlon, sophomore Laura Cordner, junior coxswain Jordan Louie finished 16:55.85.
Crew B with freshman Tara Eddings, junior Sarah Greyer, junior Charlotte Hillary, sophomore Megan Hudson, junior Emy Huntsman, freshman Stacey Kerr, junior Bethany Krawec, junior Natasha Lejer, and coxswain Jennifer Cruz clocked in second place at 17:14.60.
Rowers Olivia Arkell, freshman Caitlin Augustin, Caitlin Burman, Marenda Chamaberlin, Laura Coltman, senior Sarah Conlon, Laura Cordner, Jessica Cruz, and coxswain Kelly Amsler, earned the Hurricanes first place in the Collegiate Novice 8+ final with a time of 22:47.89.
In the Women’s Champ 1x Final, Sarah Conlon placed first, clocking in at 20:44.59. Second through seventh place consisted of all UM rowers with freshman Karalun Van Aken (22:08.04), Marleena Eyre (22:53.28), junior Charlotte Hillary (23:39.03), sophomore Megan Hudson (24:53.89), junior Madison Nesbitt (27:23.92) and Caitlin Burman (28:02.96).
The Women’s Champ 4+ saw first and second place results from UM. Crew A team with senior Karen Wiley, Bethany Krawec, Kelly Amsler, Natasha Leier, and senior coxswain Meghan Leydecker finished at 18:47.26, while Crew B rowers with sophomore Rachael Sporko, seniors Sarah Stocks and Valerie Webb, junior Julianne Parker and coxswain Jessica Cruz clocked in at 19:57.06.
Women’s Champ 2x Final placed first through fourth. Crew A with Caitlin Augustin and junior Emy Huntsman finished at 18:31.96, while Crew D with sophomore Laura Cordner and senior Laura Coltman finished 19:20.12. In third place, Crew B with freshman Hannah MaKay and Marenda Chamberlin finished with a time of 20:13.98 and Crew C with senior Molly Wilson and freshman Stacey Kerr clocked in fourth at 21:05.97.
“We have a deep team this year with a lot of talented rowers”, commented Morgan. “They were able to push each other in a variety of different races.”
