TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Miami surrendered a pair of second-half goals to fall to in-state ACC rival No. 3 Florida State Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The Seminoles’ (11-1-2, 4-1-2 ACC) India Trotter netted the eventual game-winner for Florida State just into the 51st minute when she capitalized on a cross from the left endline by teammate Mami Yamaguchi that moved just out of reach of UM (7-7-1, 1-6-1 ACC) keeper Lauren McAdam who came out of the net to defend. Trotter gathered the Yamaguchi pass in front of an open net and scored, putting FSU up 1-0.
Miami junior midfielder Sheuneen Ta nearly registered the equalizer for the Hurricanes in the 76th minute, knocking down a ball cleared out of the box by Florida State following a corner kick by teammate Jessica Wyble and firing off a high shot from the top of the box that was saved by FSU keeper Ali Mims.
Florida State recorded its second goal of the day at the 77:31 mark Katrin Schmidt played a ball into the box for Kelly Rowland, who beat a UM defender and dribbled past an on-coming McAdam, who finished with nine saves on the afternoon, to score.
UM midfielder Akilah Moore nearly sparked a late UM run late in the 87th when she ripped a shot from over 25 yards out that fell into the hands of Florida State keeper Kimmy Diaz, ending the UM comeback.
The Hurricanes take a week off before hosting Wake Forest next Sunday at Cobb Stadium at 1 p.m.
