Six Photo Shoots to Feature Hurricanes
Aug. 11, 2006
Coral Gables – Over the last week, a number of Miami Hurricane football players took part in photo shoots for upcoming newspaper and magazine college football preview editions.
As always, newspapers throughout the state of Florida try to dress up their special football sections with creative photographs, and this year was no exception. Here are this year’s photo shoots:
Miami Herald – Safeties Brandon Meriweather and Kenny Phillips in front of a green wall in the Hurricane Club at the Hecht Athletic Center
South Florida Sun-Sentinel – Coach Larry Coker with his 2006 playbook in a team meeting room
Palm Beach Post – Linebacker Jon Beason as professor in a classroom
Orlando Sentinel – Five players wearing retro 1926 UM uniforms. Greg Olsen, Anthony Wollschlager, Brandon Meriweather, Kenny Phillips and Baraka Atkins were photographed, as well as UM cheerleader Lindsey Armstrong.
Fort Myers News-Press – Quarterback Kyle Wright backlit in the Orange Bowl
The most elaborate photo shoot was for ESPN Magazine, in which Meriweather, the Hurricanes’ All-America safety, was photographed by famed international photographer Michael Muller, who has photographed numerous Olympians and other world-famous athletes and celebrities. Muller flew to Miami to shot Meriweather for a feature about “impact” since Meriweather is considered one of the hardest hitters in college football. The shoot took place in the outdoor swimming pool at a private home near Killian High School, with Muller underwater in a scuba outfit shooting up at Meriweather, who dived repeatedly into the swimming pool in full uniform. The photo will appear in the College Football Preview Issue of ESPN Magazine, to be on stands soon.
