UM Picked to Win ACC Championship Game in 2006 ACC Preseason Poll

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Miami was picked as overall preseason favorite to win the 2006 ACC Football Championship Game as decided by voting media attending the 2006 ACC Football Kickoff in Jacksonville Monday.
Picked to win the Coastal Division by 52 first place votes, 42 more than second-place Virginia Tech, the Hurricanes edged out Atlantic Division favorite and in-state rival Florida State by a vote of 31 to 23 to win the 2006 ACC Championship game in Jacksonville December 2.
Miami and Florida State will square-off in the season-opener Monday, September 4 on ESPN at 8 p.m. in the Orange Bowl.
In other voting junior quarterback Kyle Wright finished second to Georgia Tech junior wide receiver Calvin Johnson as the 2006 ACC Preseason Player of the Year.
Wright, a native of Danville, Calif., earned honorable mention All-ACC honors in 2005 after leading the league with 18 touchdown passes and finishing second in passing efficiency (137.2).
