Deem, Charles Honored By USTFCCCA

Sacramento, Calif. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem was named the 2006 East Region Outdoor Women’s Coach of the Year and junior Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ontario) was named the 2006 Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field, Cross Country Coaches Association Wednesday.
Deem guided Miami to the ACC Outdoor Championships for the second consecutive season and had 10 women qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
The Hurricanes ended the regular season ranked third in the nation.
Charles won both the long jump and triple at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in both events.
Charles enters the NCAA Championships with the top mark in the nation in the triple jump (14.17m/46-06.00) and ranks third in the nation in the long jump (6.59m/21-07.50)
This marks the second time this season that Deem and Charles were honored by the USTFCCCA. Deem was named the 2006 South Region Indoor Coach of the Year and Charles was named the South Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
