Rachel Clausing Named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior rower Rachel Clausing was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III First Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
Clausing, a Lansing, Ill. native is a four-year letterwinner for the Hurricanes’ rowing squad. The marine science and biology major graduated with a 4.0 grade point average. In her final semester at Miami, Clausing earned an Atlantic Coast Conference Postgraduate Scholarship. The Weaver-James-Corrigan scholarship is given to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate-level degree following graduation. Each recipient will receive $5,000 to use towards his or her graduate education. Student-athletes receiving the award have performed with distinction in both the classroom and in their respective sports, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
In her final season at Miami, Clausing helped the Hurricanes to a third place finish at the 2006 ACC Championships. As a member UM’s Varsity Eight crew, Clausing helped the Hurricanes win their first-ever Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic. For their efforts, the Hurricanes were named the ACC Crew of the Week.
During the 2004-05 season she competed with the varsity eight earning as silver medal at the FIRA State Championships and finishing fourth at the ACC Championships. Clausing was also named to the 2004-05 ACC Honor Roll. Her sophomore season Clausing likewise competed with the varsity eight, earning a gold medal at the 2004 FIRA State Championships and a silver medal at the San Diego Crew Classic. She was also named to the 2004 CRCA All-Regional Team.
CoSIDA selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, womens volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, mens basketball, womens basketball, baseball, softball, mens track & field/cross country, womens track & field/cross country, mens at-large and womens at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions. Football consists of just first and second teams.
