Women's Track and Field Set to Compete at the ACC Outdoor Championships

(hurricanesports.com) – The No. 2 University of Miami women’s track and field team will be competing at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Winston-Salem, N.C. at Kenter Stadium April 20-22.  The Hurricanes are seeking their second straight ACC outdoor title and fourth straight ACC conference title.

The Hurricanes are led by senior All-Americans Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) who seek to defend their titles.  Darden won the 400 meter hurdles, and has the fastest time in the conference this season, breaking her own conference record. Greggs won the 200 and 400 meters, and holds the fastest marks in the conference in both of those events this season.

 

The Hurricanes lead the conference in five other events.  Darden has posted the fastest mark in the 110 hurdles and will be running the event at the conference meet.  All-American Brenda Faluade (Katy, TX) posted the longest mark in the long jump at 21-01.25 and All-American Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) posted the longest mark in the triple jump (46-06.00).  Faluade will additionally be competing in the triple jump and Charles will long jump as well.  The 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay times are also both the fastest in the conference.

 

Senior Melanie Schultz (Davison, Mich.) will run the 1500 meter and 5000 meter.  For the throwers, Khadija Talley (Benning, Ga.) will compete in the shot put, discus and hammer throw and Akera Lathan (Miami Southridge) will compete in the shot put and discus. Senior all-American India Ransom will compete in the 100 meter dash and senior Carly Brown will compete in the high jump.
