Women's Golf Travels To ACC Championships

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team heads to Pinehurst, N.C. for the 2006 ACC Women’s Golf Championship, April 14-16.
Miami, which finished fifth last season, will face some of the nation’s top teams including No. 1 ranked Duke. The Blue Devils will be attempting to win there 11th consecutive conference title.
A total of six ACC teams are ranked among the top-40 in the nation by Golfweek including No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 17 Virginia, No. 34 Florida State, No. 38 NC State and No. 40 North Carolina.
The Hurricanes are led by 2005 All-ACC selection Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.). The sophomore has recorded three top-10 finishes in seven events this season and leads the team with a 75.81 stroke average. She was Miami’s top finisher at the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship, March 31-April 1, placing seventh with a score of 225 (78-74-73).
Also playing well at the State Championship was junior Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) who finished 15th with a score of 227 (79-72-76). Prats has posted three top-20 finishes this season and ranks third on the team with a 77.46 stroke average this season.
Competing in her first ACC Championship will be sophomore transfer Jessica Steward (Mystic, Conn.) Steward transferred to Miami from Boston College prior to last season and currently ranks second on the team with a 76.67 stroke average. She has been the Hurricanes’ top finisher at two events and has recorded four top-20 finishes.
The tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
