Sixth Ranked Hurricanes Shut Out No. 62 Hokies in ACC Action

With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 16-4 overall and 8-1 in ACC play while the Hokies fall to 11-10 overall and remain winless in eight ACC matches.
The Hurricanes opened the match by claiming the doubles point for the 18th time this season with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. UM’s fifth ranked duo of Melissa Applebaum and Audra Cohen topped the Hokies’ 47th ranked tandem of J.J. Larson and Anat Elazari 8-1 at the No. 1 slot. Miami clinched the point when Monika Dancevic and Audrey Banada shut out Abbey Walker and Inga Beermann, 8-0, at the No. 2 position.
Cohen, ranked second in the country, defeated her 14th ranked opponent of the season when she downed Beerman, ranked 58th, 6-2, 6-2.
At the No. 2 position, Applebaum, ranked 63rd in the country, upended Elazari 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) while No. 112 Dancevic topped Larson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot.
Banada, ranked 123rd, defeated Ashley James, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 4 position as Patricia Starzyk topped Jessica Long 6-2, 6-2 at court No. 5.
Caren Seenauth also claimed a win, topping Walker 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.
The Hurricanes return to action Sunday when they face No. 29 Virginia at noon.
