Women's Golf Places Sixth At Ryder Championship

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team shot a final round 293, the low round of the tournament, to finish sixth at the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship held at Don Sula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.
Florida State shot a final round 299 on Sunday to win its third State Championship in the last five seasons. Rollins College, the 2004 Champion, finished six strokes back.
All five Hurricanes recorded rounds in the 70’s on Sunday led by sophomore Jessica Steward’s one-under-par 71. Steward (Mystic, Conn.) finished tied for 25th (84-76-71–231). Miami’s top finisher was junior Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) who finished tied for seventh with a three-day score of 225 (78-74-73). Junior Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) recorded a final round 76, her third straight round in the 70’s, to finish 15th.
Charlotte Campbell (Rollins) captured the individual title for the second time in three seasons with a total of 221 (72-75-74). Ashley Grier (UCF), Caroline Westrup (Florida State) and Jaclyn Burch (Florida State) finished one stroke back.Joining Campbell, Grier, Westrup and Burch on the All-State team were Maria Hernandez (FIU) and Christina Jones (USF).
Miami returns to action April 14-16 at the ACC Women’s Golf Championship in Pinehurst, N.C.
