Led by junior Josie Shinn’s round of 78 the University of Miami women’s golf team shot an opening round 322 and is in seventh-place after the first day of the Ryder Florida Women’s Collegiate Golf Championship being held at Don Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.

Rollins College, the three-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion, is in first after firing an opening round 298. Florida State is currently second with a score of 300 while South Florida is third (304).

Vanessa Vela (Rollins) shot a two-under-par 70 to take the individual lead. Her teammate Charlotte Campbell and FIU’s Rebecca Samuelsson are two strokes back after shooting rounds of 72. Shinn is tied for 19th.

Second round action will begin Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The final round will take place Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Admission is free.
