Starks Named All-American on One-Meter at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga.

– Junior diver Derek Starks was named All-American after finishing fourth in the one-meter springboard finals on the first day of competition at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday evening. The three-day meet is being held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

Starks, who is the reigning ACC champion on the one-meter, earned his third career All-America honor after finishing fourth with a score of 354.55. The Mission Viejo, Calif. native was named All-American on the 10-meter platform in 2003 and 2004.

Starks reached the finals by finishing fourth in the afternoon’s preliminaries with a score of 326.65.

The top eight finishers from the afternoon’s prelims advance to the evening’s finals. Student-athlete’s who finish among the top eight are named All-American. Those who place anywhere from ninth to 16th place are designated Honorable Mention All-American.

Georgia’s Chris Colwill won the event with a mark of 407.10.

Starks will resume action at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with the three-meter springboard prelims beginning at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Finals are slated to begin commence at 7:00 p.m.
