Bounds Wins Platform Event at NCAA Zone B Diving Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Heather Bounds won the 10-meter platform Sunday afternoon at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships held at the LancasterAquaticCenter on the campus of the University of Kentucky to earn automatic bid to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

Bounds, the Atlantic Coast Conference Champion in the event, came in first with a score of 540.25 for the automatic bid.

 

Junior Derek Starks, the men’s ACC platform champion, also qualified for the NCAA Championships when he came in third in the men’s 10-meter platform with a score of 726.40.

 

Bounds and Starks join senior Melanie Rinaldi who qualified for the NCAA Championships Saturday with second place finish on the 3-meter springboard.

 

The women’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships begin Thursday, March 16 and run through Saturday, March 18 at the University of Georgia. The men’s meet begins Thursday, March 23 and runs through Saturday, March 25 at Georgia Tech.
