The University of Miami women’s golf team fired a second round 298 to move into third-place heading into Tuesday’s final round of the Papa John’s Collegiate Golf Championship being held at Don Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.

Miami (306-298–604), which entered the second round in seventh-place after an opening round 306, had all five players shoot rounds in the 70’s to move up four spots, and to within striking distance of the lead.

Sophomore Jessica Steward (Mystic, Conn.) led the charge with a 71, the team’s low round of the day. Steward (80-71–151) is tied for 15th overall with teammate Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) who posted a second round 78 after a team best round of 73 on Sunday.

Miami’s overall leader is junior Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) who recorded her second consecutive round of 75 and is tied for ninth. Junior Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) recorded the Hurricanes’ second best round of the day (74) and is tied for 19th with a two-day total of 152.

North Carolina State shot a tournament record 287 to move into the team lead (310-287–597), two strokes ahead of second-place East Carolina (305-294–599).

Christina Jones (USF) fired a one-under-par 71 and is in first-place with a total of 143. Emelie Lind (ECU), Leah Wigger (Virginia) and Amanda Mathis (Miss. St.) are tied for second with scores of 146.

Final round action will begin at 8 a.m. Admission is free.
