Hurricanes Down FAU 6-1 in Dual Opener

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Miami took five of six singles matches while sweeping all three doubles matches to upend in-state rival FAU 6-1 Saturday afternoon in the Hurricanes’ (1-0) spring dual season opener at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
In singles, 87th-ranked junior Josh Cohen defeated FAU’s (0-4) Kevin Obletz 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 slot while freshman Danny Vallverdu knocked off the Owl’s David Demers 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2
On the No. 3 court, UM senior Tim Krebs downed J.P. Bounassar 6-0, 6-2 and senior Eric Hechtman defeated Gianfranco Dossena 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4.
Miami’s fifth singles point came from sophomore Vivek Subramanian who upended Akin Akman 6-0, 6-1.
The Hurricanes swept all three doubles matches, surrendering just a total of eight points to the Owls.
Miami returns to action Monday hosting in-state ACC rival and 11th-ranked FloridaState at 12 noon.
