CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Ivory Latta scored 21 points to lead No. 4 North Carolina to a 90-57 victory over Miami on Monday night.
Latta went 5-for-5 from the field, including four 3-pointers, in the first 6:58 of the game as the Tar Heels opened to a 22-6 lead and were never threatened in the second Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season for both teams.
Reserve Alex Miller replaced Latta after the Tar Heels’ quick spurt and connected on three 3-pointers to help North Carolina (15-0, 2-0) increase its advantage to 35-11 with 9:06 remaining in the first half. Miller finished with 12 points.
North Carolina made 10 3-pointers in the first half and led 50-23. The Tar Heels finished with 13, one short of the school record set against Navy on Dec. 6, 1991.
Melissa Knight led Miami (11-3, 1-1) with 14 points.
Tamara James, the ACC’s leading scorer at 21 points per game, was held scoreless until her short jumper 53 seconds into the second half. She finished with 11 points.
The Hurricanes return to action Thursday, traveling to Clemson where they will face the Tigers in a televised match-up on Comcast SportsNet (CSS) at 7 p.m.
