Hurricanes Mourn the Loss of Jenna Johnson

Coral Gables, Fla. (www. hurricanesports.com) – – The University of Miami mounrs the passing of former University of Miami women’s soccer player Jenna Johnson (22), who died Sunday, Dec. 18 in Los Angeles County while preparing for the Los Angeles AIDS Marathon.

Born in Berwyn, Ill. On Dec. 22, 1982, Johnson, a volunteer for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program (NAMTP) collapsed during the midpoint of a 20-mile run that was part of her training for the Los Angeles Marathon held in March. She later passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank.

Johnson, a defender/midfielder with the Hurricanes from 2001-03, worked as a production assistant on the George Lopez Show following her graduation from UM. She also served as an assistant coach for Flintridge Sacred Heart in Los Angeles County for the past two years.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at Hallowell & James Funeral Home in La Grange, Ill.
